Antiqua and Barbuda Adopt Automated Jamaican Customs Program

July 20th, 2007 marked the signing of a tri-partite cooperation agreement between the Organization of American States (OAS) and the governments of Jamaica and Antigua & Barbuda, to implement Jamaica's US$2 million Customs Automated Services (CASE) solution in Antigua & Barbuda. See press release


School community radio goes on air

The Bequia High School Community Multimedia Centre (CMC) went on air on 3 July in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The school radio has been developed to enhance the integration of information literacy in education in the Caribbean through a partnership among the Bequia High School, UNESCO and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Commission for UNESCO. CARIMAC and UNESCO to offer online media courses

CARIMAC will for the first time offer three of its courses online through a partnership with UNESCO and the University of the West Indies Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC). The courses to be offered are Community Media, Online Journalism and Information/Media Literacy. The ones in Community Media and Online Journalism will begin in September 2007. See press release


Youth Portal for Latin America and the Caribbean

June 5th, 2007 was the launching date for the UNESCO and CELAJU Youth Portal for Latin America and the Caribbean (English version) to integrate the 22 countries and territories of the Caribbean region and globalize this tool for youth communication. See press release


Haiti benefits from training under CUPIDE

Faculty, administrative staff and students at University Quisqueya (UniQ), located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, are benefiting from training in the use of the open source learning management system (LMS), Moodle, for distance education. The training is being provided through the UNESCO/UWI Caribbean Universities Project for Integrated Distance Education (CUPIDE). See press release


First Caribbean community library radio launched in Bahamas

The first Caribbean community library radio Infolight FM 108.0: The Power of the Information Literacy through Young Voices was officially launched by Carl Bethel, Minister of Education of the Bahamas, on 16 October 2008, at the Bahamas Library Service. This project is implemented in partnership with UNESCO.
